True North in the Community

Each quarter, a member of the True North team chooses a volunteer event for us to participate in. Check back in here to see where we are and what we do each quarter of this year!

First Quarter

First Quarter

For the first quarter of 2021, your True North team volunteered with Feed More in Richmond last week. We worked on a conveyor belt style assembly line alongside other volunteers and packaged boxes with a variety of food goods to be sent out all over the city! Feed More runs an incredibly efficient shop and does so much good for our community. They also have pretty great taste in music that plays while you work! With the increasing demand for aid around the city, Feed More's impact has never been stronger. However, the increased demand also means they need more hands on deck! So, if you and your family/friends are looking for a place to volunteer that can do a lot of good for the community, we encourage you to reach out to Feed More and see how you can help!

Second Quarter

For the second quarter of 2021, our team volunteered through HandsOn Greater Richmond to help the Virginia Randolph Education Center with their garden! Typically, the students on campus help instructors with maintaining and caring for the garden, but due to… “complications of 2020”… students weren’t on campus and the garden had taken the space as it’s own. We helped with pulling weeds, cleaning beds, removing sticks/other debris, pruning, etc. I tell you, it was a hard days work! But it was great to help set up the community garden so that the kids will have something to come back to that they can be proud of and continue to improve!
Third Quarter

Third Quarter

For the third quarter of 2021, our team volunteered with the Patrick Henry Family YMCA , YMCA of Greater Richmond , and Feed More to distribute food to families in need. The day started with us bagging produce - and other food items - in order to ease distribution to the families that came. As cars rolled in, we loaded them up with different food items like chicken, fresh vegetables, dry goods, boxed meals, etc. The teams from Feed More and the YMCAs were fantastic along with the other volunteers that gave their time! We genuinely enjoyed getting to work alongside such selfless people and getting to provide food and smiles to the many families that were in need. Our team was constantly rotating stations and jobs in order to best accommodate the operation, but our very own Juliette Sykes deserves a special shout out for her role! Being bilingual, Juliette aided in guiding families to, and through, the distribution lines giving them instructions and information. Without her help, we may have been severely limited on the number of families that we were able to aid!

Fourth Quarter

For our team's 4th quarter giving back campaign, we revisited the The Salvation Army Central Virginia's Christmas distribution center to help prepare gift bags to be delivered to families around the area! Once again, the operation was a sight to behold with so many Salvation Army workers, volunteers, and donors coming together to answer the wishes of so many families this holiday season. In the old JC Penny building of Regency Square, we spent the morning filling bags with toys, clothes, and other essentials according to each family's list that was provided. Thank you to all of you for your continued support throughout this year! We hope that everyone has a fantastic holiday season and we look forward to another year of serving our clients, and our community, with the same love and care as we do our team members and our own families.See you around the bend in 2022!

First Quarter

For the first quarter of 2021, Juliette booked our team a visit to The Virginia Axe Company in Rockville, VA! We had a spectacular time filled with laughs, games, and of course hurling sharp(ish) objects at a wooden wall. Despite our apparent lack of "Viking ancestry", we were able to let loose the frustrations of 2020 and ~hurl~ ourselves into 2021! The team at The Virginia Axe Company does an incredible job of making the experience safe, fun, and unforgettable. If you and your family are looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, we highly recommend checking them out!

For second quarter our very own Cathy Mask scheduled for our team to go to River City Escape Room and test our problem solving skills (alongside the strength of our friendships). River City Escape Room has an absolutely fantastic facility with many different escape rooms for you and your family or friends to attempt. We tried the hardest room in Virginia (and its bordering states) called "Innocent". It was incredibly fun being roped into the story and trying to complete all three levels! As smart as I'm sure all of you think we are, the room proved to be too much for us to complete more than the first level (there are three in all). However, we all came out in one piece (although there may have been a few hitches along the way) and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We recommend to anyone that's looking for an exciting activity to do that's family friendly to go visit River City Escape Room! Great choice Cathy and we'll see everyone for our next installment in Q3!

Third Quarter

For our team’s fun event in the third quarter, Frankie set up for us all to go on a Food tour of Scott’s Addition! This was a bit of a sequel to last year’s food tour of Church Hill, and it was just as much fun! Both tours were put on by Discover Richmond Tours and our guide, Brian, was fantastic. As we strolled through the streets from place to place he told us about the history of Scott’s Addition alongside telling us facts about each restaurant we went to. If you and some friends and/or family want a fun way to spend a day learning a little (and eating a lot), then you should definitely consider booking one of Discover Richmond’s food tours!
